Kristin & Charlie's Story
To say I spend a lot of time in the hospital is an understatement. From doctor, lab, oncology visits; to surgeries and hospital stays. I've also spent many holidays, including St. Patrick's Day, Independence Day, my birthday, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years, all in the comforts of a hospital bed.
As a student studying Clinical Psychology with a focus on animal assisted therapy, I aspire to heal the mind, body and spirit. I have studied psychotherapy, spirituality and many types of emotional support such as relaxation, meditation, sensory and touch therapy and I'm certified in Level 1 Reiki.
During one of my medical appointments, I showed my doctor a picture of my new kitten "Charlie" and he suggested I bring Charlie to my next appointment. When my doctor met Charlie, he thought she had a unique temperament and suggested she be certified as an Emotional Support Animal (ESA).
Charlie's visit lead me to do a case study on the many benefits of Emotional Support Animals. Knowing how Charlie benefited me, is why I chose to start the Dawson Family Foundation.
Charlie and I visit hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, schools and other institutions and provide personalized gifts to bring joy to someone's day.
